Integrated mechanism, new buses to improve Noida transport

The New Okhla Industrial Development Authority is planning to introduce an Integrated Transport Management System and add 170 new buses to connect various sectors and villages for enhanced mobility in the wake of rapid residential expansion.

The authority has joined hands with the UP State Road Transport Corporation to connect more areas with six metro stations that fall in Noida and Grater Noida, Chief Executive Officer Sanjiv Saran said.

‘The authorities plan to add 170 more buses which will include 100 big buses, 50 mini buses and 20 semi low floor buses that will run within the city and connect different sectors and villages to the metro stations,’ said Saran.

Saran said the UPSRTC currently plies total of 241 buses every day in Noida and Greater Noida, out of which 196 buses have been provided by Noida and Greater Noida Authority.

In addition, the ITMS will help commuters ascertain the waiting time and location of the bus at bus waiting shelters.

Saran further said a dedicated body for development and maintenance of public transport infrastructure in Noida and Greater Noida is also awaiting state government’s approval.

‘Once approved, immediate steps will be taken for its implementation,’ Saran said.
