Inebriated men beat up minor boy, parents

Intoxicated men beat up three persons, including a minor boy at Baikunthapur, Malda on Wednesday. They were admitted in Malda Medical College and Hospital in a critical condition.

Police said, Sukhen Mondal, a 14-year-old boy was admitted in the hospital along with his parents -- Anita Mondal and Ashim Mondal. Sukhen received injuries on his head and back. Anita and Ashim received heavy injuries on their legs and back. “We have started investigation. The accused persons fled the spot after the incident,” said a police officer.

Police learnt that some intoxicated persons were creating ruckus behind the house of Ashim Mondal. Ashim protested the incident saying that his son could not concentrate on his studies. He requested those men to vacate the position.

“Those intoxicated men attacked the house owner there. He was beaten up with empty liquor bottles. His wife Anita rushed there to save her husband but she was also beaten up,” said the officer.

Later, the intoxicated men dragged the 14-year-old boy out of his house. “They beat up the boy with empty bottles. He was injured and fell on the ground. Some local residents rescued him from there,” the officer added. Neighbours rushed Ashim, Anita and Sukhen to the hospital.

Following the Galsi incident, the Malda police started raid in different areas of the district. “The accused who beat up the three persons including the minor boy, will soon be arrested,” said the officer.

However, the officers of the state Excise department raided liquor dens in different parts of the district, and demolished at least several dens there. The officers destroyed containers and raw materials.
