IndianOil to add 24 mt refining capacity via brown field expansion

“These expansions will be carried out concurrent to the projects currently underway, to supply BS-IV and BS-VI compliant auto fuels across the country, from April 2017 and April 2020 respectively,” said Director (Refineries) Sanjiv Singh.
Singh was addressing IOCians on the occasion of IndianOil’s Foundation Day at refineries headquarters here. “With India poised to lead the global oil and gas demand in the near future, IndianOil needs to be in sync with the aspirations of the emergent nation and capitalise upon the great challenges and inherent opportunities”, he added.
Speaking on the company’s preparedness for the production and supply of greener auto fuels, Singh said, “The government has set very stringent targets of meeting BS IV and BS VI standard fuel quality in order to ensure better environment. Accordingly, our refineries need to meet the strict timelines of April, 2017 and April, 2020 respectively, set for supplying BS IV and BS VI compliant fuels. Such quantum jump within a span of three years is being attempted perhaps for the first time by any country in the world.”
Director (Refineries) called upon the employees to use innovation and flexibility of ideas and actions. He also expressed happiness on the successful implementation of indigenous technologies developed by IndianOil’s Research & Development Centre in the quest for better profitability.
Following the commissioning of the unit based on INDMAX technology at Paradip Refinery, other indigenous technologies in line for implementation include INDAdeptG at Guwahati Refinery and OCTAMAX at Mathura refinery, among others. Leveraging of R&D acumen in areas like biotechnology, nanotechnology and other emerging spheres has the potential of being game changers in the near future, he added. A high point of the day was the felicitation of the winners of uggestion Scheme Corporate Awardees hailing from various refineries, by ED (HR) A K Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, the capacity of Indian Oil Corp’s Gujarat Refinery will bolstered to 18 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2020 from the existing 13.7 mtpa, plant’s Executive Director S K Dhargupta said.
Dhargupta, on the occasion of Indian Oil Day, which was observed today, said after the expansion, it will supply 100 per cent BS-VI petrol and diesel. The programme is expected to be completed by 2020, he added. “The Gujarat Refinery was dedicated to the nation in 1966 with 2 mtpa refining capacity. Refining capacity will be expanded to 18 million mtpa from the existing 13.7 mtpa,”
he said.
G K Satish takes over as Director (BD)
G K Satish on Thursday took over as Director (Planning and Business Development) of Indian Oil Corp (IOC). Prior to this, he was executive director in-charge (Gas Business) at IOC. He replaces Debasis Sen who superannuated on Wednesday. "A Graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Surat and a Post-Graduate in Management from Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, Satish has over 30 years experience in IOC in the areas of marketing operations, logistics, business development, international trade, natural gas business and human resources," the company said in a statement.
