Indian women to meet Puerto Rico in World TT main draw
The Indian women's squad, after having topped the group in the qualifiers, received first-round bye in the main draw where they clash with Puerto Rico, while the men's team will start against Hungary at the 2016 table tennis World Championships here today.
Incidentally, India had finished second behind Nigeria in group F qualifiers yesterday after blanking out Slovak Republic 3-0 in the Second Division. The Indian women will be running into Puerto Rica for the second time in the championships after the latter accounted for England 3-2 in a tough first round-match on Thursday.
The Indians had beaten the North American team 3-1 in the second round of their group G match on the second day of the championships when Mouma Das lost her opening rubber match to Adriana Diaz 1-3. If our women team manages to beat them in positions 25-32 match tomorrow morning, they will progress to the next round of the main draw where they will play for positions 25-28 against the winners of Serbia-Vietnam match later in the evening.
As for the men s team, their immediate task would be to beat Hungary in positions 25-36 tonight and expect to clash with Nigeria, who thrashed India 3-0 in their group F clash in the third round on Tuesday, and progress to better their previous edition s position. The Indians had finished 33 rd in the last edition of the world championships at Tokyo, Japan.
