Indian Oil launches Digital Awareness Camp to promote cashless transactions

Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday launched the Customer Awareness Campaign for digital transactions at IndianOil Retail Outlet, M/s Irwin Service Station, Baba Kharag Singh Marg, New Delhi. 

Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil) is India’s Largest Commercial Enterprise, with a net profit of 103.99 billion  for the financial year 2015-16.

 Other distinguished guests present at the event were senior officials from MoPNG, Oil Industry and dealers of IndianOil. 

The Customer Awareness Campaign focuses at spreading digital awareness and facilitating the common man to use Cashless payment options during day to day transactions. 

With the introduction of Cashless payment options like Credit Cards, Debit Cards, POS terminals, e-Wallet options and Loyalty Cards at Retail Outlets, the campaign reinforces the fact that convenience lies in being cashless in today’s time. 

The various digital payment solutions available to the general public were also showcased. 

Speaking on the occasion, Pradhan said that through the digital awareness campaign, transition will be towards less cash and then towards cashless.  For this purpose, all service providers have been brought on board, and an MoU has been inked with Common Service Centers (CSCs) of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, who will be deploying trainers at Oil Marketing Companies’ Retail Outlets across the country to train the general public on the use of various Digital/Cashless payment modes and to promote them.   Tie-ups have been done with Public sector banks, Paytm, Mobikwik, Oxygen, Citrus, Olamoney, Ideamoney, Jiomoney, Airtel money, Vodafone MPS, Freecharge and many others. 

In one month all retail outlets in Delhi will be covered under the customer awareness cum training programs, and subsequently it will spread to all the ROs across the country.

 Pradhan further said that in the first phase, all Retail outlets numbering more than 53,000 in the country will be covered in the campaign. 

He also said that the pump attendants should be given proper training as they are the key people in taking the scheme forward as they are the interface between the customer and the service provider. 

Petrol pumps, he said will not only provide fuel through cashless transactions but will also educate and train the general public on the use of various Digital/Cashless payment modes. 

He also said that facility for cashless transactions has been started through feature phones and such transactions can be undertaken without internet connection.

Since December 1, digital transactions at retail outlets have increased to almost 50% of total sale which was around 10-15% earlier.  

Today’s, customer Awareness Campaign for Digital transactions is yet another Consumer empowering initiative launched by MOP& NG and is a step forward to promote the vision of cashless Economy of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
