Indian Museum’s renovated painting gallery to open on May 18

The gallery will display an assemblage of as many as 262 paintings, showcasing the evolution of Indian painting styles spanning over nearly five centuries.

“It offers a unique opportunity to see all under one roof, everything from illustrated folios from the Kalpa Sutra and the Khamsa-i-Nizami through the magisterial work of Ustad Mansur and Nainsukh to the work of modern masters like Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, Gaganendranath Tagore and Abanindranath Tagore,” said Jayanta Sengupta, director-in-charge, Indian Museum, in a statement.
