Indian fashion is at its peak: Aki Narula

Aki Narula, who has been missing from the runway for quite sometime, flew to the Capital to promote his upcoming What not to wear-India on the small screen.

This is the stylist’s first foray into television and he says that there couldn’t have been a better debut.

‘What is very interesting here is that we meet real people and delve into their personal lives and make them understand and adapt to the right clothes,’ the designer told  Millennium Post.

‘It was challenging as we took on 13 women and helped them understand their style,’ said Narula.
So what’s keeping him away from the runway? ‘I have been busy with 16 films in fours years and that is why I have no
t come back to the runway since 2008,’ he said.

‘Movies take up three to four months and if you see my creations in Bunty aur Babli, Rockstar, and now Barfi, the look has been different in all of them,’ said Narula.

‘If I didn’t do the movies it would have gone to somebody else anyway. So I decided to take on the movies and they take up a lot of time. Now that I have done Barfi, I am planning to come back to the runway soon. But it will take another few months to prepare for it,’ added Narula.

The designer is happy with how the Indian fashion scenario has changed as people have become more conscious about what they are wearing. ‘Indian fashion is at its peak with fun elements and also cutting-edge designs,’ he said.

What’s his style? ‘Fun, quirky with a twist, and something unconventional and eclectic. The suit I am wearing now has a dual tone which makes me look taller,’ he said.
