India U-19 football team win in Asia Champions Trophy

The Indian U-19 football team defeated Thailand’s Chonburi FC 2-1 in their last home match of the FAM-FRENZ Asia Champions Trophy 2015 here on Wednesday.

A late goal by captain Daniel Lalhlimpuia gave the Indian colts much needed three points and propelled them to first in the Group A standings at the Tilak Maidan.

India earlier defeated Malaysia’s Frenz United A 2-1. On Wednesday, India took an early lead in the 6th minute. Chonburi equalised at the <g data-gr-id="20">troke</g> of half time.

India scored the match-winning goal in the 89th minute.

India next <g data-gr-id="21">face</g> Malaysia’s Frenz United A on October 22, <g data-gr-id="22">2015</g> and mathematically need a point to secure qualification to the latter stages of the competition.

“The lads were very disciplined on Wednesday. There were times when Chonburi got the better of us, but we regrouped and showed our character and desire to win the match. This win gives the Team a boost of confidence,” India’s coach Lee Johnson said after the match. 

“If we had taken our chances, who knows what the score-line might be,” Lee added.
