India to host 2017 AIBA Commissions Meeting in February

Continuing India’s return to the international boxing fold after the formation of a new federation, the sport’s world governing body AIBA on Friday picked the country as the host of its 71st Commissions Meeting come February.

AIBA President Ching-Kuo Wu also applauded the recently-formed Boxing Federation of India (BFI) for the successful conduct of the senior women and men’s National Championships.

BFI hosted the women’s nationals in Haridwar last month and men’s Nationals concluded in Guwahati on December 13.

“I am very glad to learn that you have successfully held Women’s National Boxing Championships and are organising a men’s event. These events are in the best interests of boxers and the promotion of boxing,” Dr Wu wrote in his letter to BFI President Ajay Singh.

“For this, I want to congratulate you on your leadership, efficiency, and achievement in such a short period after you took the helm of boxing in India,” he stated.

In another letter, Wu also formally announced that India will be hosting the 2017 AIBA Commissions Meeting in Agra next year. Overwhelmed by AIBA’s appreciation, Singh said, “India will host AIBA’s 71st Commissions Meetings for the first time. We are delighted that AIBA recognises the importance of India on the world boxing stage.”
