India squad retained for WI tri-series

BCCI selectors on Monday retained the 15-member Champions Trophy squad for the tri-series in the West Indies starting 28 June. India are in the semifinals of Champions Trophy after having won all their group matches against South Africa, the West Indies and Pakistan. 

MS Dhoni will lead the side which has five seam bowlers in Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Irfan Pathan and Vinay Kumar while Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Amit Mishra will be the spin trio. The tri-series also involves Sri Lanka.

The tournament will be played in two venues, Sabina Park at Kingston in Jamaica and Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad. India start their campaign against the West Indies on 30 June at Sabina Park and face Sri Lanka on 2 July at the same venue. 

India will again play the West Indies on 4 July in Port of Spain followed by Sri Lanka on 9 June at the same ground. The final is slated for 11 July at Queen’s Park Oval. Seniors like Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Zaheer Khan, Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh, who were ignored for the Champions Trophy, remain out of favour. 

Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, Dinesh Karthik, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Irfan Pathan, Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, R Vinay Kumar.
