India Inc hails blend of youth & experience

Industry on Sunday said it is pleased to see a combination of young and experienced faces in the new cabinet, particularly expressing hope that crucial areas of infrastructure like power will get priority.
Besides, it said, giving the crucial Parliament Affairs Ministry to seasoned politician Kamal Nath would ensure smooth functioning of Parliament that will pave way for implementation of key economic reforms.
'Involvement of senior minister Kamal Nath for floor management in Parliament would help in passage of several pending crucial bills. It is certainly a welcome step,' Assocham secretary general D S Rawat said.
Urban development minister Nath, a seasoned Congress leader from central Indian Madhya Pradesh state, has also been given the responsibility of Parliamentary Affairs.
The Monsoon Session of Parliament was almost washed out because of a stand-off between the government and the Opposition.
Confederation of Indian Industry director general Chandrajeet Banerjee said: 'It is good to see a mix of new faces in the council of ministers. It is a good balance between youth and experienced faces.'
FICCCI President R V Kanoria said he was happy to see important portfolios of power and corporate affairs being given to young ministers.
Jyotiraditya Scindia has been upgraded to the rank of Minister of State for Power (Independent Charge) and Sachin Pilot to Minister of State for Corporate Affairs (Independent Charge).
In his initial remarks, Scindia said his priority would be to ensure that 'the government and private companies work in tandem for the common goal of country's progress.'
The Assocham secretary general said the power sector was in a shambles and the assignment has been given to the young minister at an appropriate time.
Many of the projects in this sector are held up because of regulatory and environment clearances.
