India and Pakistan to extend visas of those stranded

India and Pakistan on Monday decided to extend visas of citizens stranded the countries due to protests called by Jats in Haryana, which led to the suspension of trans-border bus and train services.

Pakistan Foreign office Spokesperson Nafees Zakaria said currently the Samjhauta Express train and Dosti bus services are suspended, which has created problems for the Pakistanis who are in India and intend to return home. He said its High Commission in New Delhi was in touch with Indian authorities for the assistance of stranded Pakistanis.

Radio Pakistan reported that the visas of stranded Pakistanis and Indians are going to expire, but it has now been decided to extend their visas to facilitate them to return to their respective country after restoration of train and bus services.

Indian officials in New Delhi also confirmed the decision taken in this regard. The Indian High Commission in Islamabad had sought assistance for Indians stranded in Pakistan because of the suspension of bus and train services.

The twin service was suspended due to protests in India, stranding passengers between the two countries.
