In the Net: SDMC schools to be linked through webcams

The South Delhi Municipal Corpoaration (SDMC) is planning to connect all its schools through webcams in order to give a boost to its e-governance agenda and make the environment at schools safer for girl students.

‘We will be able to monitor the activities going on in the schools by sitting in our office. It will also help to establish immediate contact with the school principal in crisis a situation and also monitor the classrooms,’ Manish Gupta, commissioner of SDMC told Millennium Post on Friday.

‘We will soon start the project on pilot project basis with connecting the principals and later expand it in each classroom,’ Gupta added. He further added that the web cams will be helpful in on-time monitoring of teachers in the classrooms and also ensure better security for students, particular girls, on school premises.

The corporation runs 588 schools in its area. ‘The web linking would enable any senior officer to monitor educational projects online from anywhere in the world. Furthermore, ongoing maintenance work and actual number of students could be counted on time in any school,’ explained Gupta.
He further added that MTNL is providing an email id to the principals of each school to connect their computers with webcams. ‘We can directly give them orders on webcam as they will be recorded as official orders,’ he added.
