What seemed like a suicide turned out to be murder in the case of a 21-year-old newly married woman from south Delhi's Green Park Extension, as the post-mortem report revealed that she was dead even before she fell from the terrace of the house.
'The report suggests that she was killed and was later thrown from the terrace,' said a police officer. The police has arrested her husband and in-laws for murder after the report came, added the official.
The deceased, Monika, was married to Dheeraj, who is a contractor of electric parts and resident of Green Park Extension, in January this year. On 12 July, around 11.30 pm, she fell from the third floor of the building of her house.
Her in-laws and husband Dheeraj informed police that Monika jumped from the third floor of the building. According to them, she committed suicide because she was suffering from depression.
Initial investigation suggested that she jumped from the terrace as she was disturbed. However, the family members of the victim alleged that she might have committed suicide or murdered because of dowry harassment. Following a complaint by the victim’s father, the police questioned her husband and in-laws.
During interrogation, the accused, the husband and the in-laws, have confessed that they first bashed up the victim and then smashed her head on the wall until she died. They dragged the body from the room and threw it from the third floor. They then faked panic and made a call to police.
