In fight against fog, Railways cancels trains

The Northern Railway has cancelled 13 pairs of trains, partially cancelled three pairs of trains and diverted two pairs of trains to clear routes for main trains.

V K Gupta, General Manager of Northern Railway, held a press conference regarding the arrangements made  to ensure passenger convenience and safe running of trains during the ensuing foggy weather, on Friday at Northern Railway Headquarters Office, Baroda House, New Delhi. Mohammad Jamshed, who is the Senior Deputy General Manager of Northern Railway, and other principal officers of various departments were also present.

‘Northern Railway has chalked out a detailed safety and operational plan to gear up to challenge of fog through a multi-pronged strategy. The railway has also overhauled its safety machinery to ensure zero failure of its equipment and working systems,’ said Neeraj Sharma, CPRO of Northern Railways.

‘The Railway is also providing technology aided devices which is the fog safe or fog pass devices to all running staff and front line staff to ensure absolute safety in train operations on trial basis. This device is an aid to loco pilots and it has a GPS-based system, which shows the position of approaching signal through audio and visual indication. Train Protection Warning System (TPWS) modification has been completed in 17 WAP7 locomotives with E-70 brake system. Emergency stop buttons (BPEMS) have been fitted in 107 locomotives by Electric Loco Shed Ghaziabad and Ludhiana,’ added Gupta.
