IMD expects Monsoon to cover entire country in 24 hours

The monsoon is all set to cover the entire nation in the next 24 hours. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) director BP Yadav, the southwest monsoon has already covered 90 per cent of the country’s geographical area till Monday, barring some parts of western Rajasthan and Kutch region. 

“The monsoon will reach these two regions in a day,” he added. The Met department has forecasted an above normal monsoon this year bringing cheer across the board, from industry to farmers. The above normal monsoon this year has brought a smile on the face of farmers and industrialists as well.

“Sowing of kharif crop in the country has picked up fast and has crossed over four lakh hectare. Rice has been sown in nearly 82 lakh hectares, 6 per cent more than the area covered last year,” the Met has said, adding that there has also been busy sowing of pulses which are in short supply always. 

“More than 46 lakh hectares of land have been covered with pulse crops, 26 per cent more than last year. At last the farmers in India are smiling after bracing two years of drought,” the official said.
