IIFT organises Model United Nations Conference

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kolkata embarked on a maiden voyage of hosting the Model United Nations Conference. The Autumn summit of IIFT-MUN 2016 took place on August 6 and 7 and was
organised by the Media Committee of IIFT, Kolkata with an aim to provide an experience of how the United Nations and some of its committees function and to set a benchmark for such conferences in India.

The Conference kick-started with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest and distinguished
dignitaries present, followed by a formal introductory speech by Udit Bhatia, Director General, IIFT MUN.

The student delegates received words of wisdom from the chief guest for the event, Mr Raghu Nandan Mody, Chairman of the Rasoi Group and representative of Republic of Mauritius in Kolkata as honorary Consul.

Being a person who has achieved great heights of human excellence, Mr. Raghu Nandan Mody, understood the importance of exposure at international level and urged more students to become entrepreneurs rather than employees.

To the delight of the IIFTians present for the occasion, he was generous enough to come up with an offer to sponsor two participant delegates of IIFT-MUN to visit the live General Assembly session in New York for a duration of three days. He coined a very unique acronym COW-Creation of Wealth and explained it with an analogy of our sacred animal, the cow.

He wanted to collaborate with enthusiastic future entrepreneurs and assured his support including the provision for seed capital.

K Rangarajan, the center head for IIFT, Kolkata asserted the need of such an initiative by IIFT.
Mohit Mahajan, Secretary General, IIFT-MUN addressed the inaugural session explaining the inception of the idea of IIFT-MUN and how hard the media committee had worked over the past few months which culminated into the simulation of this 2-day event.

The inauguration ceremony ended with everyone rising to the national anthem.
