If Sourav has time, he should be roped in by BCCI: Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar feels that a man of former captain Sourav Ganguly’s “capability” should be used by the BCCI in the running of Indian cricket team provided the ‘Prince of Calcutta’ can find time from his busy schedule.

Asked if Ganguly is the right candidate to replace Ravi Shastri as the overall head of support staff (Team Director/<g data-gr-id="24">High Performance</g> Manager), Gavaskar told NDTV, “Depends on the time he (Ganguly) has. He has a lot of commitments. Don’t forget that he is also the joint secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) which is a very <g data-gr-id="22">time consuming</g> job. But a man of his capability, provided he has time, can bring a lot of <g data-gr-id="21">positivity</g>.”

Gavaskar also made it clear that if Ganguly is made the <g data-gr-id="17">High Performance</g> Manager or Team Director, then the chief coach’s post doesn’t hold much of a significance.

“It all depends on how the BCCI is looking at it. If Sourav becomes <g data-gr-id="18">High Performance</g> Manager, then he might just want a batting coach, bowling coach and fielding coach of his choice,” said Gavaskar.

On a lighter note Gavaskar did not forget to mention that whoever is the coach or High Performance Manager won’t actually be put to test as India will not be touring outside the sub-continent in the next two years for a full series.
