Ice skating becomes new craze in New Town

Skating on ice is becoming popular among New Town residents. There are many trainers who help the participants to enjoy roller skating on artificial ice at Eco Park. Earlier, West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) had proposed to set up a snow park and advertisements were published to get a commitment from interested companies.

However, the idea was later scrapped as it would consume a large amount of electricity. However, the Eco Ice Skating Park in New Town, an environment friendly venture, witnesses heavy footfall on holidays. People of different ages, mostly youth, come and enjoy roller skating which requires both physical fitness and courage. People can buy skating boots for rent at the park as well. The owner of popular sports goods shop in central Kolkata said that skating was becoming popular and the demand for skating shoes was growing steadily.

It may be mentioned that in New Town a series of sports activities, both outdoor and indoor, have been introduced. A dedicated path for cyclists will come up soon in Eco Park. Cycling is among the sports that have become popular.

In Eco urban village, attempts have been made to revive some of the traditional outdoor sports where investments are low. Adventure sports, like long distance cycling and biking, are slowly becoming popular in the area.
