IAS officer pens book for aspiring civil servants

Seasoned IAS officer of the West Bengal cadre Saumitra Mohan has released his latest book, Selected Contemporary Essays, which will help aspiring civil servants prepare for the tough-to-crack IAS examination at both the national and state levels.

Apart from theoretical knowledge about the nation’s socio-economic and political development, the book reflects a wealth of experience imbibed by the senior civil servant, who has been witnessing India’s ongoing social and economic changes first-hand for over a decade.

The book is a compilation of around 135 detailed essays penned by the author on global, economic, strategic, security and socio-political issues of great importance. Additionally, Mohan enlists the latest facts and figures about India’s development indices, extremely important for General Knowledge and Current Affairs in the UPSC exam.

“This is an academic exercise. It will help not just young aspirants of the state and national civil services, but anybody who is sitting for a competitive exam and wants to read up about the country’s socio-political situation,” Mohan, a practicing IAS officer told Millennium Post.

There is more in store. Mohan also decodes important national developments, including the Goods and Services Tax, ISRO’s achievements and so on. Plus, there are invaluable tips from him on how to save time, answer correctly and avoid pitfalls.

“A lot of my experience of taking the IAS exam and serving as an IAS officer for years has gone into the book”, adds Mohan, whose book has been published by McGraw Hill. The book also includes previous year’s essay questions, topic-wise analysis of previous five years’ questions and tests in MCQ style with answer keys.

Saumitra Mohan is a member of the IAS batch of 2002 and belongs to the West Bengal Cadre. He is presently posted as the District Magistrate and Collector of Burdwan. Before entering the IAS, he served as Assistant Regional Director with Indira Gandhi National Open University and as Lecturer in Political Science with Meerut University.

He was also a journalist with the Press Trust of India. Mohan studied Political Science and International relations in college and thereafter. His book is available online at Amazon.in and is priced Rs 300.
