I won’t tolerate if someone insults Bengal: Mamata

She was addressing a rally on Monday afternoon in support of the party candidates.

Mamata Banerjee said Burdwan district was a red bastion and the red terror that had been unleashed by the party was still very fresh in the minds of the people. The elder people still remember how the Saibari killing was organised by the party. The people did not have any freedom. Their ration cards were seized by the party and the election was rigged. No development had taken place in the area.

The same CPI(M) is back and urging people to cast  vote in their favour. This time they have a partner in Congress. It is most unfortunate that Congress that had been heckled by CPI(M) is joining its hands for survival. Congress workers were killed by CPI(M).

The party had criticised Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and called them a witch and thief respectively. “But despite that, Congress is holding CPI(M)’s hands for survival. The party has sold its flag to CPI(M),” she said.

Referring to the BJP she said the party’s sole business was to divide Bengal. “The fund allocation for various projects has been curtailed and its leaders are coming to Bengal and making promises. Do not cast any vote for them, “she said.

She regretted that an attempt had been made to insult Bengal.

“This will not be tolerated and we will take a stock of the situation after the polls are over. The people will not tolerate this insult to the state,” she maintained.

“It has become a custom to use unparliamentary words to criticise me. They call me a thief. TMC is the most honest political party in the country. Those who did not have money have now become zamindars.”

She said over the past five years various development works had been carried out benefitting a large number of people. Under Khadyasathi project poor people are getting rice at Rs 2 per kilogram. Kanyashree and Sabuj Sathi have helped the students and people are now living peacefully.

Banerjee who is confident of her victory said that on May 19 when the EVMs would be opened for counting, the Opposition would see their position. She said TMC would come back to power and would carry out extensive development. She concluded her speech by repeating the slogan she has made for the election “ Thanda thanda cool cool ebar jitbe Trinamool.”

She added that she  was not scared of the BJP’s “threats” and clarified that the chief secretary replied to the show-cause notice issued to her by the poll panel since it was addressed to her as the chief minister.

“If the letter was sent to me as a Trinamool leader, then I would have answered on the party’s letterhead. But it was addressed to me as the chief minister, the answer was sent the corresponding way (via the chief secretary),” the Trinamool Congress supremo said.

In a sharp retort, she thundered at the BJP for “attempting to influence constitutional bodies”.

Banerjee also asserted she will not bow down to anyone just because she is contesting the elections.

“Just because I am contesting the polls doesn’t mean I will bow my head and we are not thieves or dacoits,” she said.
