I-T officials search GMR Group premises

The Income-Tax Department on Thursday carried out searches on the premises of GMR Group in the national capital and few other locations in the country suspecting tax evasion. Sources said the operations were being conducted by the Hyderabad investigation unit of the department.
A team of 100 I-T sleuths, according to sources, were involved in the search and seizure operations in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad since early morning. The team has scanned the documents and payment details related to TDS [tax deduction at source] of the company and the documents have been seized, they said.
GMR Group, meanwhile, has stated that this morning officials from the Income-Tax Department visited some of their offices to check their books. In a statement, the company said: ‘We are extending all assistance to the team of officials. We are confident that the officials will find our corporate practices and books satisfactory.’
