I-T dept withdraws case against Jaya

The departmental proceedings against former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa and her close associate N Sasikala in four Income Tax cases concluded with the department passing the final order on the compounding fee paid by them on Thursday. The income tax department had filed a criminal case against erstwhile Sasi Enterprises and its partners - Jayalalithaa and Sasikala - for their failing to file returns for two consecutive years (1991-92 and 1992-93).

On Thursday, special public prosecutor for the IT department Ramaswamy filed a formal petition before the additional chief metropolitan magistrate (economic offences) “for getting consent of the court to withdraw from prosecution and not to pursue the prosecution proceedings any further against the accused.” “The case against the accused is dismissed as withdrawn from prosecution under Section 321 of the CrPC.
