I-T Dept issues detailed circular to reduce tax payer grievances

To address grievances of taxpayers, the I-T Department on Tuesday put in place a detailed framework for 'verification and correction' of the outstanding tax demand, while rectifying the inaccuracies arising due to delayed or non-reporting of TDS (Tax Deduct at Source). 

Such mismatch can arise due to inaccurate or delayed reporting of TDS by the <g data-gr-id="15">deductors</g>, including the employers. "In order to swiftly and accurately resolve such grievances, the CBDT has issued a comprehensive Circular ....," the Finance Ministry said in a statement. The circular explains various steps taxpayers need to take to view and submit their responses with regard to their outstanding tax demand, it added. Taxpayers may view their outstanding tax demand on their e-filing account at www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in and follow the steps elucidated in the circular to submit their response either agreeing with or disputing the demand.
