I have joined BJP to make country Congress free, says Tirath

According to sources, BJP is planning to field her from Patel Nagar reserve assembly segment where it did not have any strong candidate to challenge AAP.

“I have joined BJP to make country free from Congress,” said Tirath, in answer to a question on if she agrees with the mission of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make the country free from Congress. “There is gross ‘indiscipline’ in the Congress. BJP is a disciplined party so I came here. I don’t want to waste my energy due to indiscipline,” she added.

She was inducted by BJP’s national president Amit Shah and later received a grand welcome at the Delhi BJP office in the presence of senior leaders including another Dalit face Udit Raj.

“I would continue my fight for the rights of Dalits, women, and youth of the country. I came here as I like the policy of BJP,” she added.

Tirath (59) started her political career with the Congress and was metropolitan councillor (equivalent to MLA) from 1984 to 1993 and MLA till 2004. She served as a minister in Sheila Dikshit government and held portfolios like social welfare, SC&ST and labour employment. As a minister in 1998 she rebelled against Dikshit but refused to resign following which Dikshit dissolved entire Cabinet and reconstituted. She was made deputy speaker in 2003 and elected MP from Karol Bagh in 2004 and from North West in 2009.
