I deserve criticism for my box-office failures: Ranbir Kapoor
With three back-to-back flops behind his back, Ranbir Kapoor is surrounded by scepticism ahead of his next release Tamasha and the actor feels he deserves every bit of it as he should be held accountable for the movie choices he made in the past.
The 33-year-old actor, who has for the majority part of his career been touted as the biggest star of the current generation, has faced a lot of criticism lately after his comedy Besharam, Roy and Anurag Kashyap-directed period drama Bombay Velvet bombed at the box-office.
“I don’t think critics have been harsh on me. I have got amazing response for most of my films.
“So, I deserve this criticism because those were my choices. I have been lucky enough to have got a lot of support from my fans. I took all the praise with a big heart so I should take the criticism well too,” Ranbir said in an interview here.
The actor said he is unsure whether he would be able to gain confidence of viewers again but he has a desire to prove himself.
“People should feel sceptical about me. It makes me work harder. It makes me not take my work for granted. It makes me realise that all the love and praise I was getting meant something. To earn that back, it will mean more now because you go through this phase. I don’t know if I will get it back or not but definitely the desire is to prove myself again and start from scratch,” he said.
Ranbir’s ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone, however, does not feel the Barfi! star needs to prove himself to anyone. “Sorry, but there is nothing like Ranbir needs to prove himself again.
“Every actor or individual goes through ups and downs in his or her career. I am sure his intentions have never been to make a flop film.
“When he does a film, he does it with the right intention but sometimes the way the story is interpreted by the director or the execution goes wrong or the movie is not that relevant at that point of time and it does not click with the audience.”
Deepika said she has never seen someone as passionate about acting and filmmaking as her Tamasha co-star.
“His heart is in the right place. People should give every film of his a fair chance. “I have never seen anyone more passionate than Ranbir about making films and acting,” she said.
