Husband held for killing wife over fight in Mangolpuri

In a shocking incident, a toddler was reported to be found playing near her mother’s corpse in their Outer Delhi home. On Wednesday night, a 26-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated to death by her husband in front of their two-year-old daughter at Outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri area.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Anju. Sources said that the accused, Narender, husband of Anju who had been absconding from the spot, was apprehended on Friday. Sources close to the investigation said that the couple often quarrelled.

On the night of the incident, Anju had allegedly a heated argument with Narender over his illicit relationship with another woman. Enraged over Anju’s questions about the affair, Narender first thrashed her brutally and in a fit of anger, he strangulated Anju to death in front of their daughter.

Sources said that the incident came to light on Wednesday night when a neighbour, on finding the door of Anju’s house open, saw Anju lying on the floor, unconscious with her daughter sitting near her mother’s body. When the neighbour tried to revive Anju, she found that Anju is dead. The neighbour therefore raised an alarm, gathered others, who in turn, informed the police. A team of police reached the spot where they found the woman dead. To their utter shock, they found a two-year-old baby girl playing near her mother’s dead body.

Police said that the body of the woman was taken to the mortuary of a nearby hospital where post-mortem was conducted. Neighbours informed police that the couple, who lived on rent in the Mangolpuri area were often heard fighting. Sources privy to the investigation said that Narender had illicit relationship with another woman. One of the neighbours told investigators that they even heard Narender brutally thrashed Anju hours before the heinous incident came to light.

Police said that they had registered a case of murder under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Mangolpuri police station against the accused husband. They are questioning Narender. Further investigation is still on.
