Hudco awards for sustainability, inclusiveness

The design awards of Housing & Urban Development Corporation Ltd [Hudco], the techno-financial institution, have been launched by Kumari Selja, minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Culture. The awards constitute an initiative by Hudco in organising and facilitating ideas and initiatives that contribute in making India's cities inclusive, livable and environmentally sustainable.

The housing major finances, promotes and facilitates sustainable development by providing consultancy services to the housing and urban development sector.

The main objectives of the Hudco design awards are to encourage professionals [architects, engineers, urban planners and other allied professionals] to be more creative and provide out of the box solution, use creative design for improving the living environments in our cities, document/ showcase the best practices and possibility of replication and sensitise decision-makers regarding utility and applicability of innovative designs.

There are five categories of awards with two prizes in each category of Rs 4 lakh and Rs 2 lakh each. The categories are cost-effective rural/ urban housing including disaster resistant housing, new and innovative design solution/ eco-cities, conservation of heritage, green buildings, and landscape planning and design.

The Hudco design awards are open to all professionals [architects, engineers, urban planners and other allied professionals] engaged in the development and design of urban or regional including buildings, neighborhoods and cities.

They are for completed or under-execution projects taken up or under execution within the last seven years. Entries will be received till 7 December, 2012.
