Howrah Commissionerate start probe into bizarre death

Senior police officers of the Howrah Commissionerate have started a fresh probe into the incident of the death of a person after his family members had tried to meet the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Sarat Sadan where she hold the administrative review meeting of the district on Tuesday.

Around six months ago, the family members of Durga Shaw came to know that he was seriously injured in a road accident in which his motorbike collided head on with another vehicle at Uluberia. He had succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital in Kolkata after two days of the accident.

The preliminary investigation of the police had also revealed that he had died following a road accident. But his family members were not willing to accept the reason behind his death as given by the police.

His family members told the police that Durga didn’t have any two-wheeler and at the same time he didn’t know how to ride it. They claimed that the victim’s friend Pankaj Mondal was behind his murder.

The victim’s family members went to the police repeated times and wrote to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) seeking their intervention. But they were yet to get any reply. Thus, they went to meet the Chief Minister on Tuesday during her visit to Howrah. They kept waiting at an entrance of Sarat Sadan. But they had failed to approach Banerjee.

It was, however, noticed by senior police officers and they intervened. The police gave assurance to the victim’s family members of a proper probe into the incident.
