Housewife’s body found hanging, husband arrested

Mystery shrouds the death of a housewife whose body was found at her in-laws house at Vaikunthanagar village of South 24-Parganas.

The victim, Sonali Naskar (26), was found hanging from a tree adjacent to her in-laws house on Wednesday morning. The victim’s family members have alleged that Sonali had been subjected to both physical and mental torture at her in-laws house as her family failed to provide the amount of dowry that was demanded by the in-laws.

Police said that Sonali, a resident of Basanti in South 24-Parganas got married to Dipak Naskar of Vaikunthapur of the same district around 7 years ago. It has been alleged that since their marriage, the women had been facing torture in her in-laws house. They demanded gold ornaments, other valuables and cash. 

The family members of the victim also alleged that on Tuesday night the woman was beaten up badly. When the victim died, the accused hanged the body in a tree in such a way that it appears to be a case of suicide. On the basis of the complaint lodged by the family members of the victim, police have started an investigation into the incident.

The investigating officers arrested Dipak in this connection while some other accused have been absconding since the incident. Police are interrogating victim’s five year old daughter. According to the police, victim’s daughter might provide the police some important information related to the death of the victim. Police are also interrogating some local residents who reportedly told the police that the victim had been subjected to both physical and mental torture in her in-laws house for a long time.

According to the preliminary investigation, police suspect that the victim might have been murdered and later her body was hanged from the tree.The body was sent for the postmortem examination.
