Hostels for visually-impaired on anvil

The Minister of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development and Education, Kiran Walia, on Friday announced that the Delhi government will soon construct a new hostel for blind students in Sewa Kutir at Kingsway Camp and will also construct a new hostel for blind girl students at Timarpur.

Win addition to that, disbursement of scholarships and other facilities will also be done for the visually impaired students. Walia announced this while paying floral tributes to the inventor of the Braille system of reading and writing, Robert Louis Braille, on his birthday.

The function was organised by the Social Welfare Department in the Drishtiheen Mahavidyalaya Chhatrawas at Sewa Kutir, Kingsway Camp.

Walia  also announced that the shortage of teachers in the blind school will soon be sorted out. The posts of teachers will be filled on regular basis. The minister also honoured Ram Karan Singh Chandel, the visually impaired student of the school on winning of Arjun Award. Paying tributes to Braille, Walia said his invention brought revolution in the lives of millions of visually impaired.
