Hooch tragedy: 8 killed in Amethi

Eight lives were lost in Amethi, Rahul Gandhi’s Parliamentary constituency, after they consumed illicit liquor in amarriage function prompting  government to suspend four official and ordered departmental enquiry against a senior official.

Six people died in Mohana village while two others in Hathkila area of the district after they consumed poisonous liquor. Five others were admitted to hospital and their condition is stated to be stable, police said.

Police sources here said that six people died and four others were hospitalized after they consumed hooch at Mohana village during a marriage function.The victims complained of diarrhoea and vomiting and died at Jagdishpur hospital.

The deceased have been identified as Kailash Yadav (40), Surya Narain Vishwakaram (45),Jamal Ahmed (40), Ram Bahadur (41), Natedar Pasi (42) and Gopi Pasi (38).

In a similar incident under Hathkila police station area in Amethi district, two people died while one was rushed to the hospital after they consumed spurious liquor at a liquor vend.

The deceased were identified as Chandrapal and Bhaiyaram.

SP Alankrita Singh has ordered a probe into the incidents.
