Hoax caller traced, arrested

In the midst of a high alert situation, a man called up the control room of Delhi Police on January 19 and said that he had plans to blow up Parliament on January 26. The number was tracked immediately and the phone call was found to be made from Noida.

Delhi Police then contacted their Noida counterparts. The man, identified as Shyamal (40), was later found in south Delhi’s Kapasera border area. Shyamal was then subjected to a day-long joint interrogation by police teams from both Delhi and Noida, at the Parliament Street police station in New Delhi. Shyamal was arrested on Wednesday and sent to Tihar jail.

“So far it has turned up that it was a hoax call and he was drunk when he made the phone call on January 19,” said a source. Shyamal is presently jobless. His last job was as a private driver for a Noida-based man. On January 19, he was reportedly in Noida with some friends.
