Hoax call threatens to blow up Nabanna

The state secretariat – Nabanna at Howrah, received an anonymous call threatening to blow it up on Friday afternoon.

The husky male voice even threatened dire consequences to the police, saying that they would not be able to do anything. A huge police force, jointly operated by Kolkata and Howrah City Police, started raiding the whole 14 storey building, each room at a time, but could not get any suspicious items.

This incident happened just two days after two hoax calls were made to blow off the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. The Kolkata Police headquarter Lalbazar and Bidhannagar Police had received those calls where a male voice threatened to blow off the airport. One person was arrested in connection with the case. But police are yet to make any arrest after Friday’s threat call at state secretariat Nabanna.

The call turned out to be hoax as nothing was found by the bomb squad. A male voice called up at Nabanna control room at around 9.30 am claiming that a bomb has been planted there which will destroy the whole building at 2 pm Friday, an investigating officer said at Nabanna.

Following the call, security has been beefed up at the Secretariat. Generally, two to three check-ups are done on a regular basis but on Friday, two three more layers have been added to it. Kolkata police bomb squad and sniffer dogs examined the entire 14-storied building on the bank of Hooghly River but they did not find anything.

The police are trying to trace the call by locating its tower position. Hopefully the person will be nabbed soon. A few months back, a person in his mid-50s was arrested from the city’s Kalighat area for making a similar call. Meanwhile, strong surveillance was continued at Nabanna throughout the night.
