Hit-and-run case: Tampering of evidence suspected

Brother of Shanu, one of the arrested youth in connection with the red Road hit-and-run case, on Wednesday wrote to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleging that Md Sohrab’s brother is trying to tamper certain evidence suspected to be in connivance with a section of police officers.

Former RJD MLA Md Sohrab’s younger son Sambia is suspected to be the main accused in the case in which an officer of the Indian Air Force was killed. Md Sohrab and his elder son Ambia are still at large. Police so far arrested Sambia, his two friends Shanu and Johny.

On Wednesday, Shanu’s brother wrote a letter to the Chief Minister mentioning that Raju, Md Sohrab’s brother, has made some attempts to tamper certain evidences in a bid to save his family members and suspected involvement of some policemen as well.

Sources said he mentioned in the letter that if evidences get tampered then the actual accuses will get released and those were accompanying him on the day of incident may get trapped.

Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force requested the Kolkata Police for a joint investigation into the incident. The request was made last week. But the police are yet to give any reply.

Moreover, the Air Force has also urged the police to provide a list containing names of the witnesses and other evidences. It is required for the court of inquiry initiated by the Air force.   Father of the victim Corporal Abhimanyu Gaud contacted the Air Officer Commanding of Adv HQ, EAC, KPUK Nair, on January 26 and enquired about the progress of the enquiry as only a few days are left when the police custody of the three arrested youth will be complete. He also expressed his concern apprehending delay in getting justice.
