High Court extends time of immersion for household idols by two hours on dashmi

The Calcutta High Court, on Thursday, directed the state administration to extend the time of immersion for idols worshipped in houses by two hours on the day of dashami.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice GC Gupta, on Thursday, extended the
time of immersion on October 11 by two hours, that is, those intending to immerse the idols will have to do it by 6 pm.

Earlier, the city police had fixed the time of immersion for idols worshipped in households to 4 pm on October 11. The restriction was imposed as Muharram falls on October 12. Challenging the police restriction, a PIL was filed in the High Court.

The Court further directed that on October 11, no procession by the members of the houses immersing the idols will be allowed. Only six persons are allowed to travel in the vehicles used for carrying the idol.
