High court dismisses petition seeking personal details of politicians

The Allahabad High Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking directions to the chief information commissioner of India to provide personal details relating to prime minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and BJP patriarch L K Advani.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice Dilip Gupta dismissed the petition filed by Kabiram Society, a social organisation. The organisation had sought to know permanent addresses of these leaders and respective districts where their names were registered in the voters’ list.

The society had moved the court after its RTI query was turned down by the CIC on December 4, 2012 on the ground that the information sought was personal in nature and could not be provided under the Right to Information Act.
