HIDCO urges New Town plot owners to start construction

The WBHIDCO has identified 1,100 such plot holders in Action Area I. A meeting between the chairman of WBHIDCO Debashis Sen and 500 plot holders will be held at Nazrul Tirtha on August 13. Letters requesting the plot holders to attend the meeting have already been sent. Besides discussion, the plot holders would be shown a documentary on New Town and how the place has come up as a highly liveable area. They will be invited to see Mohenjo Daro, a film at Nazrul Tirtha. All the participants will get two free entry passes for Prakriti Tirtha earlier known as Eco Park so they can visit the area and see the development that has actually taken place.

To facilitate the plot holders, New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has started online sanction of building plans. A lifting station has been set up at Debendrabala ghat in North Kolkata from where unfiltered water from river Hooghly is taken to the filtration bay and piped filtered water is supplied to the people of New Town. The NKDA has set up four markets. Over the years communication has greatly improved. The township will be converted into a green city.

New Town has come up as an ideal destination. Rabindra Tirtha is a major cultural hub. Mother’s wax museum and Prakriti Tirtha are two major attractions. Prakriti Tirtha has recovered a footfall of over 50 lakh people since its inception. There are children parks, pet park and even a pet crematorium is coming up. Swapno Bhor has been constructed for elderly people where there is an auditorium and library and a coffee corner besides a sprawling lawn where elderly people come for morning and evening walks.

Many people who have purchased plot in New Town do not have a clear picture of the development that has come up over the past few years. They are not aware of the pro people steps that have been taken up by NKDA.

Sen who is very hopeful about the interactive session said the misconception of people was removed when they actually saw the development of the area. The questions raised by the plot holders would be answered and they would be requested to start construction of buildings on the plots, he maintained.
