The West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (Hidco) has planned to open a control room to tackle the huge crowd which it expects to visit Eco Park on January 1.

Eco Park has become the new destination for Kolkata residents and its neighbourhood. Around 64,000 people visited the park on December 25 and around 43,000 people visited it on December 27, chairman of Hidco Debashis Sen said.

“We expect around 1 lakh people to visit Eco Park on January 1 and extensive arrangements have been made including setting up of a control room to help the visitors.

Eco Park is a dream project of Mamata Banerjee. After coming to power, she had proposed to set up a park to facilitate people to come close to nature. Over the past five years the park has become immensely popular. “Our USP is cleanliness and maintenance and if anyone found littering, he/she has to pay a fine of Rs 100,” said Sen. The restaurant called Café Ekante was named after the Chief Minister where traditional Bengali food is available along with other dishes.

Besides, the boating facility on 112 acres of water body, the due cycle popularly known as the tandem in the West is also attracting huge crowd. The flower garden is beautifully decorated and trees that have been named in various literary works of Tagore have been planted.

There is also a facility of up market visitors at Eco Park. A floating restaurant has been opened there. Hidco has constructed 22 cottages on 7 acre island and one has to take a boat to reach the spot. The cottages have become immensely popular and during winter it is really tough to find a booking. People come to enjoy the sunrise at Rajarhat.

Eco Park is now becoming popular as a ceremony site. The park, the glass house and the cottages are let out to hold marriage ceremonies and other functions.
