Hidco to inaugurate toy train facility at Eco Park today

Hidco chairman Debashis Sen said there would be hop on and hop off facilities for the passengers like London buses.  

The toy train is a replica of the famous toy train in Darjeeling.  

Nine stations have been built and a model of Ghoom station has also been constructed. The revelers can get down from the train enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and they get into the train when it comes again. 

They can enjoy the environment and the train will take 40 minutes to complete the route. 

Sen said Tuesday’s ride will be on experimental basis. The whole thing has been designed in such a way that it will attract both the children and the adult equally.  

It may be mention that Ghoom is the most important station of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. 

Earlier, when one reached Ghoom there was a feeling that Queen of the Himalayas with snow clad picks was not far away. Rabindranath Tagore had fond memories of his trip to Darjeeling by toy train. 

When the train reached Ghoom, he wrote, everyone felt cold and hurried to take out more woolens from the suitcases. But by then the mercury dipped and they all reached Darjeeling sneezing.  

Eco Park has already become a tourists’ spot where a floating restaurant was inaugurated in December.  

Following  the initiative  taken by chief minister Mamata Banerjee, New Town is coming up a new destination.  Already  the area is coming up as a major  cultural hub.  Every Sunday budding directors are presenting their drama at Rabindra Tirtha. A wellness hub is likely to come up by April. 

New Town is coming up as a smart city  and the  proposals have been sent to Delhi for clearance.  A smart city will get   Rs 100 crore per year for five years  from the Centre while  the state government will provide another Rs 100 crore during the period.
