Hedua swimming pool closed indefinitely

Kolkata Police closed the swimming pool at Hedua for indefinite period where a 22-year-old Calcutta University student died on Tuesday morning after drowning in the pool while swimming. In the course of the investigation police found serious negligence on the part of pool authorities. Police said that the pool did not have proper infrastructure prerequisite to run a swimming pool. There were no adequate trainers and no medical kits at Azad Hind Bagh Mahila Samity who run the swimming pool.

Police have already interrogated the trainers of the pool in this connection. Police have got some important information after interrogating the trainers.  Following the incident Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) had formed a special team which will visit all the swimming pools in the city to inspect whether they lack proper infrastructure.

The civic body has given a strict instruction that if the swimming pools in the city are found to have been running without complying the basis parameter set by the KMC, action will be taken against the pool authorities. Even the civic body may close a swimming pool if found not to be adhering norms.

Victim Sangita Das was a new learner there. She was swimming in the pool on Tuesday morning without a trainer when the accident took place. She was taken to Calcutta Medical College and Hospital where she was declared brought dead. Her family members had alleged her trainer of negligence.

People in the city who take their children to various swimming pools alleged that most of the pools in the city do not have adequate number of trainers and they lack proper infrastructure. Police had announced 3 days closure of the swimming pool following the incident. But this time the police have closed it for the indefinite period.
