Health dept worker hacked by inebriated goons in Malda

A health department worker was hacked by goons for protesting against the consumption of liquor in Malda. The incident happened in English Bazar area in Malda on Saturday morning. The victim was taken to medical college and hospital for treatment. 

Police said the victim, Joy Bansfore, was a fourth class staff of a health centre at Malda. He saw some people drinking liquor at Chataipotti area of the English Bazar in the morning. He went to the area and requested the youth to stay away from liquor. The youth threatened him to leave the place, but the man requested them to leave the place.

The youth, then attacked the man with sickle and hacked him. The man was taken to the hospital.
“The victim, who was hacked by those inebriated youth, was in a critical condition. He is fighting for 
life now. The accused have also taken Rs 6000 from his pocket,” a police officer said.

However, Chandmoni, Joy’s wife have alleged, the criminals are active in the area for some days.
Police have not taken any action earlier against them. Now, police have started raid after Joy was hacked by the drunkards.

“I have rescued the person who was writhing with pain and took him to the hospital. The drunkards have gone at large by that time,” said Manmotha Roy, a local resident.
