HC likely to announce bail for Kunal Ghosh

Suspended Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Kunal Ghosh, who was arrested for his alleged involvement in the Saradha scam, could soon get bail.

The Division Bench of the Calcutta High Court – comprising Justice Ashim Kumar Roy and Justice Malay Marut Banerjee – asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) about the principles for giving bail to Ghosh, a journalist-turned-politician.

CBI is currently probing the Saradha scam, for which several arrests were made. One of the arrested accused is Ghosh, who was at a top position in Saradha Media group and Saradha Tours and Travels.
The offence that Ghosh allegedly committed warrants three years of conviction and he has already spent two years, 10 months and 11 days in jail, without getting bail.

The Bench was amazed by the fact that Ghosh was confined for so long and instructed the CBI to inform the principles to the court as to how Ghosh could be given bail.

It may be recalled that Justice Roy had given a book to CBI lawyer Raghavcharalu in the court a few days ago during the hearing, and instructed him to read it to know whether the offence committed by Ghosh could be identified as an economic scam.
