HC grants interim injunction against strike call at NLC

The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted interim injunction against the strike call given by various trade unions of public sector Neyveli Lignite 

Corporation from Thursday. Justice K <g data-gr-id="24">Ravichandra</g> <g data-gr-id="25">Baabu</g> also ordered <g data-gr-id="31">issue</g> of notices to all the 10 unions and the Regional Labour Commissioner (Central) returnable by four weeks on a petition filed by the Chief Regional Manager, Neyveli Lignite Corporation.

In his petition, the Chief Regional Manager submitted that during the talks with regard to various demands by the unions and the NLC management, a number of issues, including wage revision, were discussed in the last meeting held on April 29 and a final settlement could not be arrived at. The talks were later adjourned without giving any specific date. The wage settlement could not be reached for the five- year term covering 2012-16 consequent to the expiry of the earlier settlement. Pending revision of wages for the subsequent term of five years, the management has paid ad-hoc advances ranging from Rs 1500 to Rs 4700 per month.

The demands made by the unions during the talks on April 29 are in conflict with the directives of the Central Government, Department of Public Enterprises guidelines on wage revision, he 
submitted.
