The Calcutta High Court on Friday dismissed a writ petition by West Bengal Pradesh Congress for a direction to the state government to allow it to hold a public rally at Nandigram in West Midnapore district on Saturday.
The state Congress had moved the high court seeking a direction to the government to grant permission for its rally after it refused to do so as one of the owners of the land, on which it was to be held, had objected.
Justice Dipankar Dutta rejected the petition on the ground that the political party had not applied to the fire services department 15 days prior to the proposed date of the rally.Â
