Haryana govt plans more cardiac units in the districts

Haryana Government is planning to set up Cardiac Care Units [CCU] in three more districts of the State, which are being covered under National Non-Communicable Disease Programme of the Central Government. These districts are Kurukshetra, Ambala and Yamunanagar, whereas one such unit has already been set up in Mewat. Stating this at the 8th Asian Interventional Cardiology Conference in Gurgaon on Friday, Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda said under this programme, screening of citizens is done for hypertension, heart diseases, diabetes and cancer. ‘However, in order to meet the ever increasing load of patients suffering from heart diseases, we need to set up more CCUs. For this, we need more cardiologists and if they are not available, we will have to develop appropriate skills of our doctors to do not only successful screening, but also provide treatment’, added Hooda. He said that heart ailments have close connection with our life style. There are several factors leading to lifestyle related diseases like lack of physical activity, bad food habits and disturbed biological cycle. He said that to combat these diseases, there was a need to promote healthy life style and he felt that cardiac professionals could guide people.
