Hanging body found from SSKM Hospital premises

Police recovered a hanging body from IPGMER and SSKM Hospital at Kolkata on Friday morning.

The workers and staff saw the body hanging near the ladies’ hostel of the campus.

Police said that the name of deceased is Sunil Onrao, a resident of Jalpaiguri. He had claimed himself to be the relative of a student.

“The man was roaming around the hospital for long. He claimed himself as the patient party. He used to talk with the people who came in the hospital for treatment. On Friday, we discovered his hanging body,” said a hospital staff.

The cops from Bhawanipore police station contacted Jalpaiguri police station for the detailed whereabouts of the person.

“We have found his name and phone number from his wallet. But we could not found the address there. We have contacted with the Jalpaiguri police for those details,” said a police officer.

However, the hospital administration has taken this matter seriously.

The security of the hospital was beefed up. 

“The night security guards were told to be more vigilant. This is may be a sporadic incident. But we have to be very careful about that,” said a hospital authority.

Everyday thousands of people come in the hospital for treatments.

The Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research (IPGMER) and Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial (SSKM) Hospital, colloquially known as PG Hospital is a government hospital and a national research institute.

It is also a multi super specialty hospital and a renowned medical education institution. The hospital also houses the School of Digestive and Liver Diseases (SDLD).

It is multi dimensional and co-ordinated patient-care, education and research in gastrointestinal and liver diseases.

“This is the best government run hospital in Bengal. The security is foolproof here. But this kind of sporadic incident makes the authority more active towards restoring the proper security here,’ said relative of a patient.
