Gurgaon girl found hanging in school washroom

A class 12 student allegedly committed suicide in a private school washroom on Thursday. She was found hanging from an exhaust fan. The girl’s parents have filed a case of abetment to suicide against an individual, called Basu, at the Palampur police station. The girl was earlier caught talking on her mobile phone by a faculty member.

The police said that the girl’s body was found on Thursday afternoon at around 1:45 pm by some students after they noticed her hanging by a cloth in the Rotary Public School washroom. No suicide note was found.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon police commissioner, Alok Mittal, while speaking to Millennium Post, confirmed that prima facie, it was a case of suicide. ‘The girl in her attempt to commit suicide had initially tried to cut her wrist. However, when she could not do so, she hung herself from the exhaust fan. Her body has been sent for postmortem examination’, Mittal said. The police said the girl feared the consequences that may have emanated from being caught for talking on her mobile phone. She had asked the teacher not to inform her parents about the alleged phone call. The girl went missing after the teacher snatched her phone and issued threats that her parents would be informed for her transgression.

The deceased was a daughter of Delhi-based businessman and a resident of the posh DLF phase-4 area. She was a commerce student, who took admission into the school last year. According to her teachers, the victim was a bright student, who excelled in her studies. ‘No one could believe that she could take such an extreme step. It was not confirmed whether the mobile phone belonged to her or someone else. She was terrified after the incident and was under depression’, a school teacher said, who requested anonymity.

However, the victim’s relatives, after witnessing cut marks on her wrist, indicated that she was murdered and asked investigators as to how she obtained the cloth, which was eventually used in the commission of her ‘suicide’.  ‘Experts from Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and crime branch units are examining the crime scene. The police are awaiting the post mortem report and are interrogating the school management. The police are also examining the phone for further clues’, added Mittal.
