Gupta wants Delhi top cop to be summoned in House

The Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta on Monday demanded summoning of Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi for rising incidents of crime against women. He termed the special session of Delhi Assembly on women’s security as politically motivated and an eyewash.

“If <g data-gr-id="18">government</g> was serious on the issue it would have summoned Delhi Police Commissioner in the Assembly and followed the legal process to find out some concrete steps. They are just playing “drama” to fool the people of Delhi,” said Vijender Gupta.

He along with two BJP MLAs O P Sharma and Jagdish <g data-gr-id="21">Pradhan,</g> walked out of the House alleging the constitution of inquiry of commission is not in the jurisdiction of Delhi Assembly. As the resolution to constitute the commission was tabled by Delhi Women and Child Development Minister Sandeep Kumar, BJP MLAs started shouting slogans and putting arguments. When Speaker Ram Niwas Goel refused to their demand to drop the provision to constitute Commission of Enquiry, they threw the papers of resolution in the Well and walked out. “The resolution is completely unconstitutional it has no legal sanctity and hence no future. We don’t want to become part of an illegal process,” said Gupta.
