Guns ’n queries at Namdhari house

A day after a district court handed over custody of Sukhdev Singh Namdhari to Crime Branch, a team had visited his farmhouse in Uttarakhand and recovered a pistol, a double-barrelled rifle and some cartridges.
The crime branch has constituted a team of eight who went on raid in the early morning of Sunday to Namdhari’s place. According to a senior police official, ‘A .45 licensed pistol that belongs to Namdhari has been taken into possession and has been sent for ballistic examination.’
The official added, ‘It is yet to be confirmed whether the recovered pistol was used to shoot Hardeep or not.’
Another name that came to light was of Hardayal Singh Bakshi, who is Namdhari’s maternal uncle. He was allegedly involved in the gun-battle that killed Ponty Chadha and Hardeep Singh.
‘Namdhari’s interrogation led investigators to question his maternal uncle, who is alleged to have planned the conspiracy to take possession of Ponty’s farmhouse in Uttarkhand’s Pantnagar,’ said the officer.
Earlier, Delhi police has detained Sachin Tyagi, PSO of Namdhari, who fired at Hardeep, allegedly to defendNamdhari was released.
The police said the investigating team had found links indicating a conspiracy behind the Chhattarpur farmhouse dispute. The officer added that some more arrests are likely soon.
So far the Delhi police have arrested seven people in connection with the case. Namdhari, who was arrested from Uttarakhand Friday, on charges of trespassing, was sent to five days’ custody by a district court on Saturday.
Namdhari was the main conspirator in the case, police told the court. Namdhari claims that the police have falsely implicated him in the case. According to the police sources, he had also fired at Hardeep in the shootout. Ponty Chadha had gone to the farmhouse with Namdhari and Sachin Tyagi.
Namdhari was sacked as chairman of the Uttarakhand Minority Commission after the shootout. He has more than three dozen cases against him, which include murder, attempt to murder, dacoity and others. He was appointed the minority panel chief by the erstwhile Bharatiya Janata Party government in the state.
